VISION 2020
To participate in Pakistan’s economic development by being the premier
provider of quality commodities from reliable resources worldwide.
MISSION
While maintaining strong links with the existing principals and customers
of fertilizers, JBL will strive to expand its scope of activities by sourcing other
commodities like coal, edible oilseed and food items.
JBL activities, related to fertilizer imports, have continued to generate maximum
revenue for the Group. This was true when fertilizer imports were made in the
public sector by the Government of Pakistan, and is still true when fertilizers
are being imported in the private sector. Realizing the similarities between commodities,
JBL management decided to merge the commodities business with the Fertilizer Division
in 2001.
The
Fertilizer and Commodities (F&C) Division has been able to maintain its prominent
position in the fertilizer indenting business through continued support from leading
foreign producers such as Yara International ASA, National Producers of Saudi Arabia
SABIC and Tessenderlo Chemie, Belgium; as well as from reputable traders namely, Gavilon Fertilizer, LLC, MultiCommerce LLC and Mitsubishi Corporation.
Pakistan remained self-sufficient in the production of Urea Fertilizer from 1997-2003.
However, due to the increase in local consumption, import of urea in 2004 resumed
through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan. Import of urea is likely to continue till 2010, after which an additional plant of one million ton capacity is to replace
the import for next few years.
The country's cumulative annual consumption of Phosphatic fertilizer is around 1.75
million tons consisting of 300,000 metric tons of Nitro Phosphate (NP), 140,000
metric tons of Single Super Phosphate (SSP) and balance around 1.2 million tons
is mainly Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) along with one to three cargoes each of Mono-Ammonium
Phosphate (MAP) & Triple Super Phosphate (TSP). The domestic production capacity
of Phosphatic fertilizers largely remained limited. Fauji Bin Qasim Limited expanded
their phosphate production capacity and from April 2008 will commence producing
around 60,000 metric tons of DAP on a monthly basis. The deficit is overcome by
importing about one 1 million tons of DAP/MAP/TSP.
The government deregulated fertilizer trade in the 90's, enabling the private sector
to take an active role in fertilizer imports. F&C's share is quite substantial;
even after the privatisation of fertilizer imports, it has been able to maintain
45% share of the total imports during the last decade.
The F&C Division is providing indenting services to major domestic fertilizer
producers like Fauji Fertilizers Co. Ltd., Engro Chemical Pakistan Ltd., Pak Arab
Fertilizers Ltd. and Pak American Fertilizers Ltd.; as well as to the leading fertilizer
importers in the private sector. The F&C Division provides assistance in procurement
of empty bags from the local market, guidance in chartering vessels as well as
smooth discharging of cargo at the port. These are the key services provided by this
Division, in addition to its major role of supplying fertilizers on behalf of its
Principals.
Catering to the requirements of various commodities in the country, this Division
has been playing a big role in the supply of commodities like wheat and palm oil. Indenting
for the other essential commodities such as canola/rapeseed and other products
is also carried out from time to time.
